Tim Macmillan Early Work 1980 – 1994

TimeSlice Films – enhance the story.
Our proprietary camera array techniques capture and enhance the critical moments of your production by creating moving images and visual effects that cut through the visual clutter.

With production facilities in the UK and US, TimeSlice Films is internationally recognized as the leading expert and innovator in the creation of camera array effects for moving image design, visual effects and content creation for broadcast, film and web.

We’ve joined a team of highly skilled 2D/3D artists and animators to bring your unique vision to life with use of our proprietary Time-Slice® capture techniques, including slow-motion, time-lapse, live action effects, and live-to-air array shots for broadcast.

TimeSlice Films was founded by Tim Macmillan the originator of the frozen time Time-Slice effect, and is managed in London by brother, Callum Macmillan. Together, they have a long collaborative history, sharing a passion for innovation and stunning visual effects since the company’s inception in 1994.

In July 2010 TimeSlice USA was founded. John Naylor solidifies our competitive position in the United States, and delivers the same level of enthusiasm and innovation for camera array as the UK office.

From idea and design — to production and direction — we create the substance for award winning commercials, title sequences, show content, web animations, music videos, promos and much more.

Imagine how we can enhance your story.

Our proprietary Time-Slice® camera array technique is a truly modern digital system. Its image quality allows the output of our array to match with anything from SD to HD and all the way up to 4K in resolution. Also, because of this resolution, dynamic virtual camera moves are possible in post-production, allowing you to push-in to a shot by up a factor of 4 in some cases. Additionally, with our proprietary software, we’re able to offer playback of takes within seconds allowing your creative team to see what they’re getting “in the can” almost instantly. Very different from previous systems where it could be a number of days before you had any idea whether a shot had been successful.

There are an infinite number of ways to configure the rig, our three favorites are:

  • Linear: All cameras track across the scene, providing a visually attractive way of revealing elements over the duration of the shot.
  • Converged Linear: Produces the perfect way of spanning large areas, going big on the camera move, while fixating on certain points of action.
  • Curved: This provides the greatest amount of rotation around the subject, a-la “matrix” style. We tend not to shot round more than 120 degrees of the curve, as beyond this expensive rig removal is needed in post-production. However, we’re happy to discuss all options.

TimeSlice is melting post of expertise, we take great pride in our ever evolving creative hand and cutting-edge eye.

Our “design boutique” approach means we create uniquely styled solutions for every project — individual, proprietary and distinctive. Each client receives the one-on-one service they deserve, and an end product that inspires.

TimeSlice. We invent, we enhance, and we stimulate. Your brand, your senses, and your story.

We have managed to build up quite a repertoire of equipment for our toy box over the years, and love the flexibility of having all these things on hand.
